ISSUE: King Nut utilizes 6 large industrial grade deep fryers to roast peanuts daily, during semi-
annual fire suppression testing, each fryer was taken off line for approx. an hour to complete the
testing resulting in unnecessary down time for the fryer. The C02 fire suppression system that
was in place utilizes approx. 18 separate 100 lbs. C02 Cylinders for each of the 6 fryers.

Resolution: We designed and installed a 2.5-ton liquid C02 fire suppression system that had the
capacity to protect each of the 6 peanut fryers. The 100 lb. C02 cylinders were removed which
eliminated semi-annual testing. The liquid Co2 system installed needs no semi-annual testing
other that a visual check of the tank’s pressure. The liquid C02 system that was installed is
compliant with the Ohio Fire & Building Code as well as NFPA.

ISSUE: Molnar & Associates frequently advises commercial real estate customers the
capabilities of their fire sprinkler system. The most common questions are related to the storage
height in warehouse were the prospective tenant needs rack storage to maximum height
allowed by the Fire Code. When designing new sprinkler system for our customers, we normally
install ESFR (Early Suppression Fast Response) sprinkler heads to take full advantage of
allowable vertical rack storage.

Resolution: Molnar & Associates will review the tenants Safety Date Sheets (SDS) to
determine commodity classification defined by NFPA 13, once the commodity classification is
determined, we can more accurately hydraulicly calculate the required water flow needed from
the sprinkler system. Normally, the required water is available with some minor adjustments to
the sprinkler system.

Issue: Molnar & Associates consulted for a costumer that stores flammable and combustible
liquids, the customer was in the process of obtaining new warehouse space and was concerned
with the maximum allowable storage quantiles that would be compliant with the Ohio Fire &
Building Code.

Resolution: We reviewed the customers SDS’s and determined which specific flammable
chemicals and combustibles maximum allowable limits were as defined within the code. After a
careful review, we were able to maximize the warehouse storage space for the needed
chemicals.

Issue: Coordination of complex fire suppression systems projects which involves a Professional
Engineer, Architect and Sprinkler Designer.

Resolution: Acting as a liaison between each of the professional designers, we coordinate every
phase of the project to keep the project on time and within budget. Additionally, we coordinate
each phase of the project with the local fire department & building department, which normally
helps in receiving a Certificate of Occupancy without any obstacles.
